A Place for Art by Library People

When Knight 121 underwent extensive renovation in 2016, a long blank hallway emerged in what had previously been an open area. Conversations in Collection Services (now Collection Strategies + Resource Description Services) quickly turned to visual improvements, which included developing the hall as an exhibit space for artwork by library employees. Initial progress in that direction was interrupted by COVID, and further delayed by many other large and small transitions. Fast forward to 2023. The vision is finally actualized. We hope it will become a place where we can connect over the personal and creative work we do outside the Libraries.

Call for Proposals: Show & Tell: A Group Show

Gallery 121 is excited to announce its inaugural group show and invites all library workers to submit proposals for inclusion. Dedicated to celebrating the artistic practices that exist alongside our work in the stacks, Gallery 121 is a space by library people, for library people. This show is an opportunity to let our creative practices and products  to speak to one another—sharing space, sparking dialogue, and revealing connections across our work.

As part of the opening event, featured artists will have the chance to give brief lightning talks about their work.

We welcome submissions in all mediums – additional details, guidelines, and how to apply can be found on our website.

Submission Deadline: October 14, 2025
Exhibition Opens: November 14, 2025
